The Egg is a story by Andy Weir – originally published on his website Galactanet on August 15, 2009. It is Weir’s most popular short story, and has been translated into over 30 languages by readers.
The story follows a nameless 48-year-old man who discovers the “meaning of life” after he dies. Featuring beautiful animation by Kurzgesagt to illustrate the story it is a must watch, offering much soulful meaning.
Andy’s inspiration for the story came from negative energy that he channeled into empathy and understanding. โIt originally came up because I was having an argument with my aunt. I thought her point of view was ridiculous. Then, later I figured if I had lived her life, her opinion would make perfect sense to me. That got me thinking about a system where people live each othersโ lives.โ
Andy further states โI wanted the reader to change their mindset (if only for a short time) and start imagining themselves reallyย beingย the people they meet. I wanted to come up with some way to look at the world such that life was fair. A way where everyone came out even in the end. This is what I came up with.โโ
